On Our Tradition

We practice Maharishi Ayurveda — the complete, unedited science of life restored by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi with the great vaidyas of India and Nepal.

Ayurveda is not a menu of remedies; it is an understanding of how the body, mind, and environment move together. At Ayurveda House a physician listens first — to pulse, to history, to the quality of the day — and only then designs a program. Treatments are sequenced. Meals are sattvic. The pace is slow.

Our method is preparatory, cleansing, and restorative in that order: oleation (sneha) to soften tissues, sudation (sveda) to open channels, and Panchakarma to release what the body is ready to release. Each evening at six the house gathers for silent meditation.

वात

Structure, stability, memory. Enlivened by dryness, heat, and movement.

À-la-carte We offer single treatments for local residents, but multi-day programs are how Panchakarma is meant to be practiced — and what we recommend.

Home Protocol · Guided by Zoom

Sneha — a four-day home preparation, designed by our doctor.

Three mornings of warm medicated ghee, then one day of gentle laxative therapy — the classical preparation for Panchakarma, completed at home before you arrive.

  • D 1–3 Oleation · Ghee (or Pippali)
Measured doses of warm, melted ghee taken at dawn on an empty stomach. If ghee is poorly tolerated, Pippali is prescribed as an alternative. Exact quantities are determined by the doctor after your Zoom consultation.
  • D 4 Laxative · Castor oil (or Senna tea)
A single dose of hexane-free castor oil early in the morning after a hot shower, releasing what the ghee has loosened. Senna tea is offered as a lighter alternative for those who do not wish to lose weight.
  • After Arrive rested
One to two quiet days between the laxative day and your first treatment. Sneha can also be done as a standalone home course, or stepped into a 3-day or 7-day program in Pokhara.

Oleation · Ghee

Taken lukewarm, on an empty stomach, between 5 and 7 am.

If ghee is hard to swallow, mix with warm 2% milk. Sip hot water with lemon for any discomfort. Do not eat until natural hunger returns — one to five hours later.

Alternative · Pilapi

For those who cannot take ghee.

A medicated alternative prescribed by the doctor during your Zoom intake when dairy or fats are contraindicated, while still achieving the softening action of oleation.

Laxative · Castor or Senna

Castor oil (hexane-free) is the classical choice.

Senna tea is offered when castor is not desired — for instance, if weight loss is not a goal. Best taken 5–7 am after a hot bath; results follow in 3–6 hours.

"Very professional and great treatments offered which were carried out with care. I went to discuss ADHD and was given a very holistic array of treatment options, including lifestyle. The doctor followed up with me multiple times and answered all of my extra questions, which has been very helpful! Thank you for your thoroughness!"

"I had a wonderful experience with my Panchakarma treatment in Pokhara. The doctor was incredibly caring, attentive, and supportive. The therapists were highly skilled and warm, and the massages were amazing. The food was delicious and perfectly aligned with the treatment. "I have done a few treatments there — patra potali and another treatment for my knee. The technicians were really good and the place was so peaceful and nice. I really like the doctor. I would also suggest looking into Transcendental Meditation while you are there. It's easy, effortless, and effective."
